From the President Bob Kehl
Our 54th wood carving show was again a successful show. Our mission for the TVC is to promote wood carving and I think we did a great job doing it. Many thanks to all club members who worked so diligently to make our show such a success. The success of our show is the result of many club members and new members stepping up to make it so well done. These efforts are what make our club so great. There were many items of the show that should be mentioned, so I will now highlight some of them:
The Friday setup turned out to be a great success, as we were able to do all the entering details and judge almost all the entries for the show that evening. The participants also were able to set up their tables. Only a few carvings were entered in the first hours on Saturday, and all were judged near noon. We ended up with 50 entries compared to 44 last year. We have quite a few new entries and some beginner carvers entering carvings in the show. Really nice for new folks participating. YEA!
Preliminary numbers from the show indicate a fairly successful year for the show. Participation from members and friends turned out great and income from the tables and the entries ended up very well.
This year we had 6 raffle prizes to offer for our show. Thanks to all the members who donated or provided donations for these raffle items and, of course, the great donations from our business friends.
We had quite a lot of silent auctions and country store items again this year. The items were donations from TVC members, outside businesses, some carving items donated by the Santa Clara Valley Carvers, and from several wood carvers’ estate sales.
The wood sales table and our country store proved successful again. We had a large variety of wood for turners and for carvers available this year. We supplied Basswood from our inventory at the Senior Center shop, some of which we milled to get more saleable sizes. I counted over eight types of wood in various sizes. This wood is available anytime for the club, so let me know if you are interested.
Again, I want to thank all the members and Santa Clara Valley Carvers who worked on this show for their wonderful help and support. Bob Kehl- President
2026 Show – Highlights

2026 Show – Pictures of Entries

Zoom sessions every Mon at 7-8 pm.

A “free style” chip carving (on the Left) shared by Ed Heskett at a Zoom meeting. We discussed ways to make the carving “pop” and Ed thought he’d try painting the sky at the top of the stairway a light blue. Ed experiments a lot with his chip carving and finishing techniques. This carving was an experiment using free style chip carving and two perspectives; front to back and bottom to top. He learned a lot and may carve a second one using what he’s learned from this one.

Monday Carving at Ken’s
Every Monday, for years now, members meet at Ken Morgan’s commercial garage for carving. Below are L – R: Ken Morgan, Tim Jinks, Lorin Jensen, Carol Salinger, and a group shot. I (Gary Eaves) was taking the pictures, and Tim Geiger had already left.

The Last Word
Another month comes around and I still hope you’ve read this far. As previously mentioned we’re in the process of updating and hopefully improving our website and our newsletter. Please be patient, and it wouldn’t hurt to hear a few more of our members asking “What can I do to help?“
Let us know if you liked this Tri-Valley Carvers’ newsletter. Also, what would you like to see in our future newsletters? Please let us know in the comments below.
