Carving groups and carving classes are held at the Pleasanton Senior Center, 5353 Sunol Blvd., Pleasanton, CA 94566. Every Tuesday and Thursday, 9 AM to 4 PM, drop-in. Arrive when you can and leave when you want to.

Hello TVC Carvers. Here we are again in August already! Only a little over a month to go before our big show in September!! Before we start on that subject, I want to talk about some of the wonderful events for the club in July.
Our annual TVC picnic was a great success with most of our carvers and many spouses attending. It was a warm day, so some of us managed to stay outside to enjoy the wonderful cascading waterfall that is part of Morgan’s backyard landscape. There was lots of food and drink to share with just the right amount of each category. AS always, EVERYTHING was GREAT and it’s ALWAYS GREAT to visit with the spouses of our carvers. Another THANK YOU to the Morgan’s for their hospitality.
The Art under the Oaks event on July 18-19th went very well again this year. We had 6 members selling their art and demonstrating. The event was very highly attended by the public on both days. We had 3 full tables including the table showing what we will be offering at our upcoming TVC Wood Show in September.
Progress is being made on the action items for our Show in September. The September 12th – 14th dates are coming up fast, like next month! Entry forms for our Show are in the July/August issue of the CCG newsletter “The LOG”, as well as our website. We’ve also been handing out many flyers and brochures at the Alameda County Fair, Art Under the Oaks, and other events where we demonstrate. Members of the public have responded positively during our interactions, which we hope translates into a good turnout at our Show.
I did a short survey of our inventory for both the Silent Auction and the County Store. We are really in need of more items for the show. Please go through your stuff and see if you might have something to donate to these important features of our show. Some of your least used hand or electric tools, carvings, etc., work well for these donations.
Attention: we are going to have the club business meeting to meet on Saturday August 22nd at the Holy Cross Lutheran church 1020 Mocho Street, Livermore Ca, 94550, from 10am until 12pm, as this is our last meeting before the show. We will check the status of our Country Store projects, Silent auction items and soap carving supplies, and all other show items. We are in real need of more member participation for the activities before and during the show.
Help wanted: There are several actions that we could use for the show: we need at least 2 people helping to assemble show shelves prior to the show door opening on Friday September 11th and after the show on Sunday 4pm. We also need volunteers to help relieve the folks manning the country store and welcome table. These are non-lifting activities to help the interested folks with info, sales and welcome smiles. Please see the attached Task force list for info. The September 11th,12th – 13th dates are coming up fast, like next month!! Make sure you get your entries and table requests into Claudia soon. Let’s make this another GREAT show!!

Alameda County Fair
There were about 45 wood carvings entered in the Fair. Unfortunately, the “Fair” reduced the number of “categories” from around 10-12 to just 5. This made it harder to figure out which category might be the best fit for each carving. However, in the end all carvings entered were judged, using CCG judges. I estimate that members volunteered for 300 +/- hours of demonstrating at the Fair. Don’t know the total but as many as 20 members demonstrated at least once.

The Last Word
Following is still the same, we can always use more volunteers. Another month comes around and I still hope you’ve read this far. As previously mentioned, we’re in the process of updating and hopefully improving our website and our newsletter. Please be patient, and it wouldn’t hurt to hear a few more of our members asking, “What can I do to help?“
