Our meeting last month featured a Chip Carving class by Ed Heskett. Ed taught us the setup and technique for chip carving a coaster project. The project started with techniques on pattern transfer and methods of chip carving the first of a four-coaster set in a holder. Ed provided four patterns to choose, one of which was a cute profile of a cat. Ed also had an Elk pattern that would make a wonderful gift for my son’s birthday. The club provided the tools and starter boards for this class free. Thanks to Kurt for milling the wood and Ken shaping the stock for the project. A big thank you to Ed for teaching us how to chip carve! Ed plans to help us in later second Saturday classes to paint and finish the project. Check out my cat coaster as a start. The elk is Ed’s work.
